PHILADELPHIA, PA - Back-to-back convincing wins for the Philadelphia Eagles have the City of Brotherly Love feeling optimistic about their team’s season.
The latest result was a 40-29 victory over the injury-riddled Saints -- the first home victory in the Nick Sirianni era. The Eagles ran the ball 50 times for 242 yards, averaging a healthy 4.84 yards per carrying. That level of efficiency makes Philly dangerous with their running attack.
The defense also deserves credit, shutting down the Saints for most of the game. If the Eagles can run the football and play good defense like they did last week, they have a chance in any game they play.
Even better news for the Birds is their upcoming schedule. Their next five games include two games against the Giants and Washington and one with the Jets. These are all very winnable and could have the Eagles in playoff position come January. This is especially true as the NFC wild-card race is very wide open, with the Eagles just one game out of it at 5-6.
Their opponent on Sunday, the New York Giants, have been going the opposite direction. A humbling loss to the Chiefs last Monday put New York at 3-7 and in dire straits. The Giant's offense hasn’t been very efficient, and the Eagles can make it a lot harder if they force Daniel Jones to beat them. The former Blue Devil is turnover-prone and it only takes a few takeaways to turn a game in the Eagle's favor.
I think the Eagle's newfound offensive success paired with the Giant's futility will result in another big win for Philadelphia.
