PHILADELPHIA - The Third Annual Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure March Tournament is underway. The tournament features four regional champions – New Jersey, Philadelphia, Delaware County, and the Other Counties. Each year's winner receives the famous PhillyBite Award, recognizing excellence in cheesesteak creations. Last year's winner, By George in The Reading Terminal Market, won the People's Choice Award for the "Best Tri-State Cheesesteak 2021."
PhillyBite Magazine runs an online poll of Philly cheesesteak experts to decide the winner. Jim Pappas, the founder of the Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure, ate more than 1000 cheesesteaks in the Philadelphia region.
The regions are; 1. The Philadelphia Region. 2. The Delaware County, Delco, Region. 3. The NJ/DE Region. 4. The Remaining Philadelphia Area County Region.
Last year, Pappas ran the Judges Award, which enlisted the help of three others with an uncanny ability to find the best cheesesteaks, including corporate chef Mark Twersky and Amigo Dan Matassino (who has devoured 100s of cheesesteaks), and Diane Farina, an event coordinator.
The March Madness Competition is based on an online bracket-style competition to determine which cheesesteaks are best. The winning cheesesteaks are awarded the People's Choice Award, sponsored by PhillyBite Magazine, and a Judge's Award, sponsored by The Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure.
