PHILADEPHIA - City officials recently announced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all city employees. This mandate includes part-time, seasonal, and embedded city contractors. As part of the announcement, the city urged city employees to wear an N95 mask for safety and prevent illnesses and to submit their vaccination status to the city by December 24, 2021.

Failure to comply will result in 15 days of unpaid leave. If the employee refuses to take the vaccination, the city may fire them. The announcement comes as a result of the health commissioner's recent comments on the sharp rise in cases of the COVID-19 virus.

The commissioner cited a need for re-evaluating the city's mitigation efforts and suggested that all city workers be vaccinated. Furthermore, the policy also allows for religious or medical exemptions.
