Destination Gettysburg Launches a Digital Farm & Market Trail to Promote Adams County Agritourism Experiences

The passport is a free program for visitors and local residents to download. The passport features more than 20 local businesses, showcasing the rich agriculture experiences in the county in an easy, mobile-friendly way. Additional vendors may join the program as the farm and market trail grows.

“Destination Gettysburg is always looking for new and innovative ways to promote the robust agriculture scene and experiences we have in Adams County. The Adams County Crop Hop will tie many of the hands-on and immersive experiences that we have at our various farms and markets into one agritourism experience for locals and visitors alike,” said Karl Pietrzak, President of Destination Gettysburg.

Conversations around creating a farm and market trail begin in 2019 and led Destination Gettysburg to reach out to a well-known technology company in the travel space, Bandwango. Bandwango technology is designed to support free and paid experiences created by destinations and marketed to visitors and locals.

Using this technology, Destination Gettysburg began working alongside local businesses to get their offerings loaded into the Adams County Crop Hop.

“Our quality of life in Adams County is enhanced beyond measure by agriculture,” Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. “Our farm markets, nurseries, orchards, stables, and farms represent not just fun places to spend an afternoon, but the value of the wide-open green spaces that feed our senses and our economy. Destination Gettysburg’s Crop Hop will be a great way to support the agriculture businesses that represent our proud past, our prosperous present, and our promising future.”

Destination Gettysburg was awarded a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to help support this promotion effort of agritourism in Adams County.

Once launched, visitors and local residents will be able to visit a dedicated mobile passport landing page where they can sign up for their Adams County Crop Hop pass by providing their name, e-mail address, and mobile phone. A link is then sent to their mobile phone, which opens the passport and directs the user to add the button icon to their home screen to access it any time. There is never anything to download, and no bulky apps take up space on a user’s phone.

Once the user is ready to redeem their pass, they simply hand their phone over at the checkout counter to receive their prize. Prizes range from Logo decals, insulated shopping totes to bamboo cutting boards.
