Philadelphia, PA (September 22, 2023) – Philadelphia Brewing Co., one of Philly’s oldest and largest breweries, is celebrating the return of Harvest from the Hood with a special Honkytonk-style party on Sunday, October 1, from 1-4 p.m. at the Kensington brewery.

This free beer, food, and music festival will feature pints of Philadelphia Brewing Co.’s full line up of beer — including the long-awaited seasonal return of Harvest from the Hood — as well as food trucks, Two-Step dance lessons, a honkytonk DJ, and live music courtesy of local bands Country Gold Classics and Yonder Hearts in both the indoor tasting rooms and outside in the adjacent beer garden and covered patio.

The 2023 release of Harvest from the Hood returns after city workers destroyed last year's crop of hops grown in a lot adjacent to the brewery. Despite having a sign that said “watch us grow”, city workers weed-whacked the area, decimating the entire crop. Nancy Barton, co-owner at Philadelphia Brewing Co., immediately began working to see what could be done to resolve the issue as this seasonal ale brings in tens of thousands of dollars in revenue. The incident received enormous attention from national outlets such as KYW News radio, Food & Wine, The Washington Post, and Inside Hook, eventually resulting in a settlement from the city.

Harvest from the Hood is a wet-hopped ale brewed with hops grown at the brewery and more hops grown by friends around Philadelphia. It rings it at a solid 9% ABV and has a juicy bright hop flavor and aroma due to being hand-picked right away for use. This is a limited-run beer while supplies last available in bottles, kegs on tap, or for wholesale beginning October 1st.

Philadelphia Brewing Co., originally founded in 1893 and re-established in 2007 by co-owners Nancy and Bill Barton and Jim McBride, is home to local Kenzinger beer and more than a dozen styles of ales and lagers brewed annually. Acting as a city leader in reusing and recycling, they produce fresh beer daily while proudly serving vegan beers. The brewery also houses The Peacock Room Beer Garden for guests to enjoy their beers outdoors.
