Philadelphia, PA – Today, Police Commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw announced her resignation from the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) to accept a new position as Deputy Chief Security Officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Her last day at the PPD will be September 22, 2023.

Mayor Kenney has appointed First Deputy John M. Stanford, Jr. as Interim Police Commissioner upon Outlaw’s departure. Outlaw expressed her confidence in Stanford’s experience, skills, and leadership abilities.

Outlaw thanked the PPD for their hard work and resilience through difficult times, noting their innovative thinking and determination to keep the Department moving forward. She also expressed her appreciation for their efforts that often go beyond the call of duty, which she said do not go unnoticed.

Under Outlaw’s tenure, crime prevention and violence reduction initiatives were developed and shared with the public within three months of her appointment despite a pandemic crisis mode. The initiatives have resulted in crime reductions, improved clearance rates, reduced complaints against police, new employee and wellness initiatives including an employee intervention system, improved diversity in hiring and promotions, and better internal and external communications, among other successes.

Outlaw expressed her honor to serve alongside each member of the PPD during some of its most challenging times in history: “Together, we have proven that we are unbreakable."
