PHILADELPHIA - September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.  The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation will host different activities and challenges throughout the month to raise awareness and funds to advance research. Ovarian cancer is not an uncommon disease, occurring in 1 of every 78 women.

It is the fifth leading cause of death among women in the United States and is the most deadly of the gynecologic cancers. The foundation aims to inform and bring awareness to the disease in hopes of one day living in a world without ovarian cancer.

Teal is the color for ovarian cancer awareness, and Friday, September 2 is "Where Teal Day." The foundation lights up iconic Philadelphia locations on September 2 and throughout the month to spread awareness. They can be seen on these dates with more to come:

  • September 1 - September 30: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • September 2: Ben Franklin Bridge, Brandywine Realty Trust, Cira Centre, FMC
  • September 16: Boat House Row, PHL Airport, Subaru of America
  • September 23: Wells Fargo Center

The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation is hosting the “Sweaty and Sweet-less” Challenge throughout the month of September. This fundraiser encourages people to either go sweet-free, get sweaty, or do both in September to raise funds for people affected by ovarian cancer. Participants can sign up for free and get friends and family to sponsor them when they want a sweet treat or a day off from working out with a donation to The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

There will also be an Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night at the Philadelphia Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, September 23, at Citizens Bank Park. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation when purchased through this link. On September 30, the foundation also hosts an Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night at the Dodgers.
